Crystal Waves Baby Blanket
I love finding new ideas for baby blankets. Sometimes I keep things simple and use stripes in ombre or mandala or even just a solid color with an interesting stitch for texture.
When it comes to trying new stitches, baby blankets are a good option. They work up fast while letting you try the new stitch.
The Crystal Waves Blanket is easy to make using basic stitches - (SC) single crochet, (CH) chain stitch, (DC) double crochet, and (FPDC) front post double crochet. This pattern is great for both seasoned crocheters who want a fast simple project and those who are just starting out.
For this project, I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in yellow (3) skeins and less than half a skein of white on the border. I wanted a yarn that wasn't too heavy or light. I also used a solid color to keep things simple and let the texture be the hero of this project.

Crystal Waves Baby Blanket
Materials Needed:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (3) skeins in yellow
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in white. I used less than half a skein for the border
4.5 mm hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch Marker (optional)
Notes:
- Starting chain is any multiple of 4
- The Crystal wave pattern is worked similar to Corner to Corner but in back and forth rows instead of starting in a corner.
- To adjust width, add or delete starting chain by multiple of 4.
- To adjust length, complete row 2 until desired length is reached.
Stitches used :
SC - single crochet
ch - chain
DC - double crochet
FPDC - front post double crochet. This is worked around the post instead of into the stitch. Yarn over an insert hook from front to back around post, yarn over and pull through to finish as a regular DC.
Row 1: 2DC in 4th ch from hook. *Skip 3 ch, SC in next ch., ch.3, 3DC in same stitch as the SC. skip 3 st, SC in next st., Ch3, 3DC in same stitch as SC. ** Repeat from * to ** until you reach the end of the ch. SC in last ch., ch3, turn.
Row 2: 2DC in 1st SC, * FPDC around the 3rd DC of the set of 3DC's from previous row, Ch.3, 3DC in ch3 space in previous row **, Repeat from * to ** to end of the row. SC in the ch3 space from the previous row, Ch3, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired length.
Border:
Adding a border is optional as the edges are pretty enough on their own. I chose to add a border of :
1 row of single crochet on the ends ,(2sc, ch.3, 2sc) in each corner
3 rows of rib stitch - alternating rows of FPDC and bpdc, (2dc, ch. 3, 2dc) in each corner
1 row of SC, (2sc, ch.2, 2sc) in each corner to finish.
