Autumn Burgundy Granny Square Blanket

Today I want to talk about granny squares. They were one of the first things I learned to make when I started crocheting. I made dish cloths, placemats, and pot holders. They are my go to for most any project. The possibilities are endless with both color and style. For my Easy Granny Square Blanket, I tried the All in One Granny Square yarn to make my squares.

When I was asked to make an afghan for a family friend, I was excited to finally be able to try the Red Heart All in One Granny Square yarn.  I had been drooling over it for weeks but had yet to buy any to try. I ended up with three skeins of the Hot Stuff colorway to design a blanket with.  Now that I’ve had a chance to try it, I have mixed feelings about this yarn. On one hand, it’s great not having to change colors and weave in a bunch of ends. On the other, it takes some time to get the tension just right so, in the beginning  there was a lot of frogging to get the colors to line up.

Of course, I went with the classic join as you go granny square blanket... it’s my favorite pattern for granny squares.  In all I used 3 skeins of Hot Stuff and  3 1/2 skeins of Heart Super Saver Burgundy yarn.

Materials:

Yarn:  3 skeins Granny All in One Square – Hot Stuff

3 1/2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver – Burgundy (I had some left over from the 4th skein)

Hook: 5.5 mm

Yarn needle to weave in a few ends

Scissors

Notes:

Pattern is written in US terms

Each skein made 14 granny squares
